THIS IS A CLOSED SPECIES
TRAITS
feel free to ignore this, this is mostly for my own memory. this is a WIP.
they all have 3 toes in the front and 1 toe in the back of their FRONT paws with each toe having a claw, these paws are MUCH larger than the back. Their back legs are smaller with small paws. Back paws can be drawn with claws, as hooves, or with no toes at all. Nebloom bodies can be thin and long, broad and short, or medium. Necks are not excessive in length and neither are the tails or legs. Masks have 1 mouth. Masks can come in any shape but growths vary in rarity (see traits).
common - 4 whiskers total, 4 legs, no ears, 2-5 petals, 1 tail, masks with 2 small - medium horns, round tongue, the ability to spit a thick liquid matching the design of the nebloom (used for scent marking or distracting predators)
Uncommon - 1-3 whiskers, Exoskeleton (any hardened plate not bound to the mask), ears, 2 or no tail(s), fangs, oddly shaped paw pads, split tongue, uni horn of small or medium length, plant based tails,
Rare - More than 4 whiskers, Extra long whiskers, Gel bodyparts, floating accessories, gembound, glowing, 3-5 tails, shimmer/glitter, extreme split tongue/2 tongues, long neck, horns on inner head (matches horns on shed, is soft), tank/jelly body parts
Luxury - Wings, 5+ tails, vapor appendages, larger bodies, longer necks, crowns, 3+ tongues, gigantic build, masks with holes, Crystal growth, more than 5 petals
Defect - Whiskerless, improper/lack of a mask, Extra whiskers, Extra limbs, missing limbs, split mouth, deep bloom (petals peel back from the head and down the neck), lack of claws (note that claws CAN be retractable), stubby neck or legs
Rotting - fungus growth, deformed anatomy, lack of ability to shed, eye(s), extra or missing mouths, oozing, exaggerated limb and neck length
About Masks, or, 'Sheds' - A Nebloom's shed (also known as their mask) is a mask shaped exoskeleton used to protect, defend, and compete. The hard shed protects the alien's sensitive petals which are tucked under the mask and over the nebloom's 'inner face'. The shed is softer around the corner of the mouth and jaw, leaving the head and beak hard. They shed these masks as they grow but the design does not change.
About the inner face, petals, and whiskers - The inner face is the face of the nebloom under the mask. It has its own set of teeth, a tongue, and lips, while the shed is just a hard extension of the mouth. Under the shed, the petals of the nebloom are tucked over the face, leaving the mouth uncovered for eating. When in shed, or 'bloom', the shed will be shed off and the nebloom's petals will unfold. 'Bloom' is very similar to shed, except this is when they are ready to breed (see 'breeding'). The whiskers are the part of the nebloom that contains, transfers, and receives genetic pollen. A normal nebloom will have 4, two that produce pollen, 2 that receive. If a nebloom has more than that, they are more likely to be targeted for mating. If a nebloom has less, they are less desirable. If they have 2-1 whiskers they might only have receiving or giving whiskers, this can be used to determine 'gender' but neblooms have no sexual differences. Despite this they may present as more feminine or masculine if they so choose. Neblooms DO have other sexual organs, but they are not used for reproduction (A penis and a sheathe, the penis will tuck away leaving a slit. Penises can be any general shape despite humanoid. They only have one.).
Breeding - For Neblooms, breeding is a fairly equal field. They will begin to secrete Bloom Nectar from their mouths, a thick substance that smells like flowering plants, which they will rub on themselves to let others know they are ready to breed. Neblooms will congregate naturally to spar one another. They will ram eachother's sheds in a display of strength, stamina, and health. Once both find that the partner they are sparring with is acceptable, they will leave the group to somewhere secluded. Here they will both shed their masks and latch onto one another using their petals (kind of like holding hands but with their face). Here in this position they will vibrate their whiskers together, assuring both get a healthy dose of pollen. After a few hours they will separate and part ways. Both neblooms (if both have receiving and giving whiskers) will become pregnant. Lets say +- means a nebloom with giving and receiving whiskers and -- means receiving only, ++ means giving only. ++ with +- will result in only +- becoming pregnant. ++ with -- means only -- becomes pregnant. ++ will not breed with ++ and -- will not breed with --.
DRAWING YOUR NEBLOOM: Neblooms can be drawn in shed or out of shed UNLESS defected in a way that affects that ability. They may be drawn in accessories such as clothes, scarves, hats, collars etc but CANNOT be given piercings or similar unless given the ability gembound OR the original adopt depicts it. They can be drawn anthro or feral, both are perfectly within canon of the species. NSFW art is always allowed but must stick to the anatomy given in 'inner face, petals, and whiskers' above.
Neblooms cannot see and rely on scent, vibration, and sound. They mainly target grubs under the ground, as animals in their world often create large grubs which are a great food source. When shed they will supplement their diet with sunbathing where they also gain energy. Infected neblooms will not be able to use this method of eating.
RULES
if you buy a nebloom you must
- tell me if you want to change, sell, or trade your design
- stick to the rules in 'drawing your nebloom' above
- you can only sell it on DA or INSTA
- you must give me the new owner
- you cannot sell them for more than you bought them unless you draw more that 3 pieces of art or buy art
- if you win a nebloom you can only TRADE it
- if you get a nebloom please, PLEASE dont draw it shedless 24/7. the shed is a VERY imprtant aspect of neblooms!
